Fighting Hay Fever During Pregnancy

My name is Gemma and I am a hay fever sufferer...

Ok that's slightly dramatic but the effect of hay fever is definitely more than a little annoying. I started stuffing badly with hay fever at around 17 years old, I have spent many a summer day attractively sniffing and more than one summer night laying in bed with a cold flannel over my face.

Every year April comes round and BOOM hay fever strikes, I don't know why I am caught off guard but it tends to be an annual nasty surprise. Myself and Zirtek have become very well acquainted over the years however this time round I am unable to rely on pill popping as I am with child.
I had a little look on line for natural remedies but I couldn't find too much so I thought I would share with you what I am using this year to battle the flowers. You don't have to be preggers to try these alternative remedies, I am sure these little treasures have got to be better than daily pill popping...

1. Local Honey - A spoon of this a day can make all the difference. Honey contains traces of  the heavy-grained type pollen which doesn't trigger allergies, consuming this in the build up to allergy season will desensitize your body to the effects of hay fever. It is important that the honey is local to your area as the pollen will be from the local flowers, the ones most likely to be causing that itchy nose.

2. Hay Max - Potentially you could also use a barrier cream such a vasoline, but your nose might look a tad greasy (attractive) Hay Max provides a matte barrier to help stop you from spending your entire day sneezing. You regularly pop this around the base of your nose and bone of your eyes to stop allergens entering your body. It's that simple.

3. Opticrom - Itchy painful eyes is one of the worst effects of hay fever in my opinion, it can leave you unable to continue on with your day. Popping these drops in morning and night will instantly sooth the effects of hayfever by blocking your body's natural allergic response chemical.

4. Prevalin - This nose spray is my least favourite, there is something so wrong about squirting stuff up your nose. But this helps to prevent sneezing and the nasal congestion that leaves you sounding full of cold during summer. This also goes some way to help with the itchy eyes so it is worth a few seconds of unpleasantness.

So there you have it, the products I will be keeping close until the autumn. Let me know if you can think of any other natural hayfever remedies, as you can see I will try anything!

  2. I'm very lucky in that I don't suffer with hay fever whatsoever and never have done! Hopefully I never will either as it seems like such a pain.

  3. I only started getting hay fever about 3-4 years ago and it certainly is a pain in the arse! I haven't actually had it appear yet this year, (touch wood). Honey does help for me although of course doesn't make it disappear completely. I've never tried drops although I think if it appears bad this year I may have to. I remember last year not being able to wear eye makeup on the days it was bad as I was just rubbing all the time.
