Spending the night with Russell Brand

Last night I attended my first ever stand up comedy show and in my very own home county of Essex.

This wasn't just a normal stand up performance however this was to raise money for a little boy called Jackson. Jackson Garwood was diagnosed with Infantile Krabbes Disease which unfortunately is terminal. The Garwood family are doing all they can to keep Jackson smiling for as long as possible. Darren, Jackson's dad, bumped into none other than Russell Brand at West Ham football ground and asked if he would mind signing a few books to be auctioned and help raise funds, Russell went one better though and said he would do a show.... What a guy!

Russell Brand was born in Orsett Hospital, Grays, the town where last nights performance took place. Lots of the audience were friends from school (he had stuck chewing gum in the hair of the girl sitting in front of us and she had to have all her hair cut off). For the duration of the show there was an air of community pride for this Essex boy done good.

Lots of the gags were focussed around Essex culture, only 10 minutes in the police arrived and two cars were threatened to be towed, standard. There was a drunk middle aged woman in the audience shouting profanities, standard. There was no question that he was home.

He commanded the crowd, and had us all eating out the palm of his hands. I can honestly say I have never laughed that much on a Wednesday night.

Terrible quality but who can resist a cheeky selfie or two?
A crowdfunding page has been set up for Jackson which you can visit HERE

What do you think of Russell, should he be prime minister?
