How does your makeup stay on your face?

Recently I popped over to Edinburgh for a mini break with a couple of friends. While we were there one of them asked me an interesting question. "How does your makeup stay on your face?"

Ok you want a bit of back ground info on why she said this...

We both got up and got ourselves ready at the same time in the morning. We spent the day getting lost in Edinburgh, eating, drinking and exploring the Christmas markets. By 5 o'clock my friend was makeup free however I still had my full face on. So I thought I would share with you the products that help me out a lot a little.

1. Nivea Post Shave Balm - I have Nikkie Tutorials to Thank for this one. You may think this is nuts but trust me this really works, it contains glycerin which makes products stick to the skin. After moisturising I apply this product all over my face, the trick is to rub it in until it feels tacky then you know it is ready to work it's magic.

2. Clarins Instant Smooth - I have used this product since I was in my teens. My resting bitch face has a lot to apologise for.. mainly my forehead. This product helps to smooth fine lines and pores leaving a flawless finish.

4. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Before applying eyeshadow is it necessary to prime. You can do this by smoothing foundation over your eyelids, however if you have the time and want your look to be perfect all day you are better off using an eye primer. I have tried lots of these and the Urban Decay Primer Potion is my one of choice.

5. Body Shop Vitamin E Spray - After watching Victoria from Inthefrow (girl crush alert) I decided I needed to try this one out for myself, and I am so glad I did. You can use this product in a couple of different ways but what works for me is to mist all of my brushes before using them to apply foundation or eyeshadow.

5. Nars Velvet Loose Powder - To be completely honest I don't think this powder is the greatest thing I have ever used however it is important to set your makeup. Not only will it help to control oil it will blur the appearance of open pores and fine lines.

6. The Equipment - I have tried applying foundation and concealer in many different ways however the best combination for a lasting all day look is to buff your foundation into the skin using a brush and to bounce in your concealer using a beauty blender or makeup sponge

Have you used any of these products? Can you recommend me an amazing setting powder?

  1. I used the Nivea shave balm as primer, I quite liked it! The body shop spray sounds interesting.. definitely going to check that out when I'm in there. I'm still on a mission to find my perfect setting powder! But one I quite like is the Bourjois Healthy balance powder! xx

  3. The Nivea shave balm has got quite a strong manly scent to it. Does the scent work its way through all the makeup so that you smell like a man or does the smell sort of disappear after a while? I quite want to try it

    1. Yes you are totally right, when you first pour it out it does smell very manly. Once you have worked it in and it's gone tacky the scent has pretty much completely disappeared. Definitely give it a go, especially for events like weddings when you need your makeup to last all day it works wonders!! :) XX

  4. Seen the Nivea balm pop up in a few posts and wondered what all the fuss was about! My favourite loose powder is by MUA and it's the matte perfect loose powder. It's one of my everyday uses and I'm so glad it came into my life!!.<3
I've also tried their setting spray which seems to work, although I've only ever used it twice for evenings out so hasn't been "all day". Maybe I'll have to test it out one day?

    1. Give it a go, it's only a couple of quid so if you don't get on with it not much is lost! Although I think you will love it! Let me know? :) X

    1. Yes I would definitely recommend trying it, it doesn't cost a lot so there isn't that much to lose if you decide it's not for you! X
